The Kwara State Police Command has arrested controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over allegations of criminal defamation, threat to life, and incitement against renowned Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa.
The arrest, which followed a formal petition by Osupa, was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the petition detailed Portable’s alleged use of abusive and insulting language, as well as conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The police said the allegations also included character assassination and incitement.
“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin,” the police spokesperson said.
Ejire-Adeyemi further disclosed that operatives of the Command travelled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13, where the singer was apprehended at about 7:25 p.m.
He was immediately transported to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, for further investigation.
“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay,” she added.
The arrest is the culmination of weeks of tension between the two entertainers, which had escalated into public exchanges on social media, including alleged threats and defamatory remarks by Portable directed at Osupa.
A source close to the case said , “Osupa had no choice but to involve law enforcement after repeated verbal attacks escalated into threats. No one is above the law, and this is a test of how artists should be held accountable for their public conduct.”
The police have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to allow due process to take its course.
“We remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in a fair and transparent manner. Further updates on the case will be communicated as events unfold,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
Portable, who is no stranger to controversy, has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement over the past year, raising concerns about his public conduct and influence on young fans.
The development marks another chapter in the growing concern over celebrity feuds spilling into the public domain with potentially criminal consequences.
