The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed allegations that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, forged his National Youth Service Corps certificate, saying investigations found no evidence to support the claim.
The Force Headquarters said the allegation was subjected to a thorough investigation, which established that the certificate issued to the minister by the NYSC was genuine.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this while responding to inquiries on the matter.
Hundeyin said the police engaged the National Youth Service Corps during the investigation and confirmed that the certificate in question was duly issued to Tunji-Ojo.
He said, “After an exhaustive investigation into the allegations, it has been established that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery, alteration, falsification, or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate.
“The NYSC was contacted and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded.”
The clarification by the police followed protests in some parts of the country where demonstrators demanded an investigation into claims that the minister allegedly forged both his West African Examinations Council certificate and his NYSC discharge certificate.
However, the police said its findings showed that the allegation regarding the NYSC certificate lacked merit.
Earlier in January, the West African Examinations Council had also confirmed the authenticity of Tunji-Ojo’s Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination results after similar allegations surfaced.
WAEC issued an attestation of results bearing the minister’s full name, date of birth, photograph, original certificate number, and official authentication markings.
According to the document, Tunji-Ojo sat for the Senior Secondary School Examination in June 1999 at the Staff Secondary School of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The results showed he obtained B3 in Economics, B2 in Mathematics, A1 in Agricultural Science, B3 in Biology, C6 in Chemistry, C6 in English Language, A1 in Yoruba Language, C6 in Further Mathematics, and B3 in Physics.
