The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the ongoing interrogation of the Senior Pastor of House on the Rock, Paul Adefarasin, over a viral video in which he was allegedly seen brandishing a firearm from a vehicle.
The 10-second video, which surfaced on social media last Friday, shows a man alleged to be the 62-year-old cleric flashing what appeared to be a pistol at a Lagos-based content creator who was recording his luxury vehicle.
In the clip, a black Range Rover slows near the videographer. As the tinted window winds down, the man behind the camera hails the driver — believed to be Pastor Adefarasin — but the latter appears to rebuke him while lifting an object resembling a firearm.
The videographer is heard apologising as the vehicle drives off.
Following public outrage and widespread sharing of the footage online, the Lagos State Police Command invited Pastor Adefarasin for questioning.
He honoured the invitation on Tuesday, appearing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja in the company of his legal counsel.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the cleric is currently under interrogation by detectives who have launched a formal investigation into the incident.
“Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives who have commenced investigation into the case since a video surfaced online showing the pastor holding a gun-like object against another road user, while driving in an unregistered vehicle,” Hundeyin said in a statement issued via WhatsApp.
He added that the outcome of the investigation would be made public upon conclusion.
Meanwhile, Pastor Adefarasin has denied the allegations, insisting that the video was taken out of context and manipulated to mislead the public. Addressing the issue during a recent Sunday service, the televangelist expressed deep hurt over what he described as a “false narrative” propagated by online attention-seekers.
“I was shocked and deeply hurt by the false claims,” he said. “This was the work of clickbaiters chasing money — truth was never their goal.”
The preacher categorically denied possessing or displaying any weapon.
“I do not have a pistol license. I do not carry a gun. The accusation is completely false,” he said.
He further urged members of the public to disregard the viral claims, citing a biblical verse: “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)
The incident continues to stir debate across social media platforms, with public opinion divided over the authenticity of the video and the pastor’s response.
