The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Otamiri Prince, over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and rape of a young woman in Port Harcourt.
The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the suspect was apprehended following a complaint lodged on April 11, 2026.
According to the police, the victim, identified as Alice Thomas, was allegedly lured by a man she met on social media to a meeting point in Port Harcourt before she was deceitfully transported to Igwuruta.
She was subsequently taken by the suspect and his accomplices to a bush in Ulakwo, in Etche Local Government Area, where she was reportedly assaulted, raped and dispossessed of her personal belongings.
Police said the victim was later abandoned by her attackers.
“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the command immediately swung into action, deploying intelligence and technology-driven strategies which led to the arrest of the suspect,” the statement read.
The police added that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Items recovered from him include an iPhone, a wig believed to belong to the victim, and other valuables.
The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are currently on the run, noting that the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, warned residents—particularly women and job seekers—against meeting strangers in isolated locations.
He advised members of the public to verify identities before physical meetings, choose secure and public venues, and always inform trusted persons of their movements.
The police also urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly through its emergency channels for swift response.
