The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious “one chance” kingpin, Bode Oludayisin, and two of his gang members during an operation that foiled a robbery attempt in Ikeja.
Oludayisin, 53, who police confirmed had been on their wanted list for several violent robberies, was arrested alongside Michael Sowunmi, 22, and David Olawaye, 20.
They were intercepted by operatives of the Ikeja Police Division while attempting to rob a commuter along Agege Motor Road on Sunday.
The suspects were operating with an unregistered commercial minibus, popularly called korope, when one of their victims raised the alarm. Officers on patrol quickly swooped on the gang and rescued the passenger.
Recovered from the suspects were a stolen Tecno Spark 20 smartphone, an axe, broken bottles, interlock bricks, and heavy stones—crude weapons police say the gang used to intimidate and assault their victims.
Investigations revealed that the suspects specialised in disguising as commercial drivers to lure unsuspecting commuters, mostly from busy hubs like Oshodi, before diverting to isolated routes where passengers were robbed at knifepoint or beaten with stones.
Confirming the arrest, Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, described the breakthrough as “a major step in dismantling criminal gangs terrorising commuters in the state.”
“This arrest is a clear warning to others who prey on innocent commuters. The command remains determined to dismantle every criminal network that threatens public safety,” Jimoh said.
He urged residents to avoid boarding unmarked or suspicious vehicles and to promptly report criminal activities via the Command’s emergency lines: 08063299264 and 09168631003.
The case has since been transferred to the Command’s Special Squad 1 for further investigation and efforts to track other fleeing members of the syndicate.
