The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed a total of N20.84 billion to 7,171 families of slain officers between 2020 and 2025.
This was revealed today by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, during a ceremony where cheques were presented to the next-of-kins of officers who died in the line of duty.
Addressing the gathering at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP disclosed that since 2020, the Force had successfully distributed N17.8 billion in insurance benefits to 6,465 families in eight different phases.
He further announced that an additional N2.99 billion had been disbursed to 706 beneficiaries covering the period from 2020 to 2024.
“This ninth phase brings the total insurance benefits paid to N20.84 billion, benefiting 7,171 families,” IGP Egbetokun said.
The initiative is part of the Force’s ongoing effort to support the families of fallen officers and ensure their welfare is well catered for. At today’s event, cheques were distributed to the next-of-kin of 706 deceased officers.
The IGP also launched the Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal (npfinsuranceclaimsmgt.ng), which is designed to streamline the insurance claims process.
The new digital platform aims to eliminate delays, provide transparency, and ensure a seamless experience for beneficiaries seeking to access benefits.
The platform also supports a specialized training program for Insurance Desk Officers across the 17 Zonal Commands and 37 State Commands, enhancing efficiency in claims management and service delivery.
Egbetokun emphasized that the initiative addresses the long-standing backlog of insurance claims dating back to 2010, which had previously caused significant financial hardship for many affected families.
In attendance at the event were senior police officers, members of the Force Management Team, stakeholders from the insurance industry, and the beneficiaries of the scheme.
The IGP reiterated that the Force would continue to prioritize the welfare of both serving and retired officers, as well as their families, as part of its broader commitment to ensuring the well-being of those who serve the nation.
