The Nigeria Police Force says it has rescued 21 kidnapped victims, arrested six suspects involved in violent crimes, and recovered a total of N4.8 million in ransom money, alongside firearms and ammunition.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
He said the operations spanned multiple states, including Taraba and Kano.
According to Adejobi, police operatives from the State Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, intercepted a kidnapping operation along the Takum/Mararaba road in Taraba State on Saturday.
A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the rescue of 20 kidnapped victims.
Two of the victims, who sustained injuries during the operation, are currently receiving medical treatment.
Several abandoned vehicles were also discovered at the scene.
Similarly, in Kano State, an intensive investigation into the March 8, 2025, abduction of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau resulted in the arrest of five suspects.
The suspects, identified as Tukur Lawal (alias Maikudi), Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim, were apprehended by the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad on March 18 and 19, following a detailed technical analysis.
During the operation, security operatives recovered a locally made rifle and N4,840,000 in suspected ransom payments.
Dr. Yushau was safely rescued and reunited with his family.
In another security breakthrough, the Special Tactical Squad (STS) acting on credible intelligence arrested a notorious criminal, Kafinta Musa, in Taraba State for his involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal firearms possession.
An AK-49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was seized from him, and investigations are ongoing to track down other members of his criminal syndicate.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the bravery and professionalism of the the officers.
He also reiterated the need for continued public cooperation in providing timely information to aid security agencies in the fight against crime.
“These successful operations underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and the good citizens of Nigeria in safeguarding communities and ensuring the safety and security of all,” Adejobi stated.
