    Police  Reject ₦4 Million Bribe During Drug Investigation

    Inspector-General of Police, Kayode  Egbetokun, has lauded the integrity of SP Rilwan Kasumu and his team from the police tactical unit attached to Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, for refusing a ₦4 million bribe during the investigation of a drug peddling and ammunition possession case.

    PLATFORM TIMES reports that on February 6, 2024, the team apprehended Esther Newman Obiekezie, 42, also known as Candy, at her residence on No 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos.

    PLATFORM TIMES gathered from the statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer,ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, that the  arrest yielded a significant quantity of a substance known as ICE, along with AK47 live ammunition.

    Adejobi in the stage disclosed that during the subsequent inquiry, Akete Esther, 43, and Oke Okebalam, 49, both from Ajamgbadi Lagos, visited the Ijanikin police station, attempting to secure the release of Esther Newman Obiekezie. 

    He added that they offered a staggering ₦4 million bribe and pleaded for an end to police interference in Esther’s illegal drug peddling business.

    In a demonstration of unwavering commitment to upholding the law, the police officer rejected the bribe, confiscated the cash, and marked it as evidence.

     Akete Esther and Oke Okebalam were promptly apprehended for further investigation and prosecution.

    IGP Egbetokun emphasizes the Force’s dedication to utilizing every available means and implementing professional anti-crime strategies to combat various forms of criminal activity in Nigeria.
