The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a four-year-old girl, Jesinta Kingsley, who was sold to a child-trafficking syndicate for N3.7 million and later found in Asaba, Delta State.
The victim, daughter of Mr. Sunday Kingsley of Alagbaka Extension, Akure, was declared missing while in the care of her mother, Sunday Happiness. The incident was initially reported to the police, leading to the arraignment of some suspects before a Family Magistrate Court. They were later granted bail.
However, a major breakthrough came when the distraught father spotted his daughter in Asaba and immediately alerted the police. Acting on the tip-off, operatives from the Command’s Gender Desk Team swung into action, recovering the child and reuniting her with her family.
Police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrest of 30-year-old Amaka Chukwuemeka, who allegedly confessed to purchasing Jesinta for N3.7 million.
She reportedly linked the transaction to other members of the syndicate, including those who allegedly forged adoption papers to facilitate the trafficking.
Olayinka described the operation as “a major breakthrough” and warned that Ondo State would not be allowed to become a safe haven for child traffickers.
“This is a well-organised trafficking network that cuts across Ondo, Delta and Anambra States. We are determined to track every collaborator and ensure they face justice. Ondo State cannot and will not tolerate such criminal activities,” he vowed.
