The Nigeria Police Force has foiled an alleged kidnapping plot in Kaduna State, rescuing 76 children from suspected traffickers and arresting three men in connection with the crime.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the operation followed credible intelligence received on Monday, January 5, 2026, about a planned attack targeting motorists transporting children.
“Upon receipt of the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Kasuwan Magani Division promptly mobilised a team to the area,” Hundeyin said.
“On arrival, our operatives engaged and repelled the attackers, rescuing 76 children, aged between 7 and 20 years. Thankfully, all the children were unharmed.”
The arrested suspects – Jonathan John (25), Oliver Magaji (27), and Bitrus Sawaba (23) – are alleged to have been transporting the children for child labour and domestic servitude.
The suspects are now in police custody as investigations continue, while the rescued children are being held safely at the Kaduna State
Police Command Headquarters pending verification and reunion with their families.
Hundeyin further stated that authorities are probing to identify other collaborators and said the suspects would face court charges upon conclusion of investigations.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges the public to provide timely and credible information to aid proactive policing,” the statement added.
This incident highlights growing concerns over child trafficking and security risks on Kaduna roads, reinforcing calls for heightened vigilance among parents and transporters.
