The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully uncovered a human trafficking syndicate and arrested a member of the gang.
The Spokesman of the command CSP Ahmed Wakil, told newsmen on Friday in Bauchi
According to him, on April 19, a concerned mother from Unguwan Kusu, Yelwa, reported to the ‘E’ Division Police Headquarters that her 19-year-old daughter had been lured away with a false promise of employment in Lagos State.
“Investigations revealed that the young woman was deceived by a 26-year-old suspect and handed over to an unidentified woman known as “Mama,” who trafficked her to Burkina Faso for sexual exploitation,” he said
Wakil said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Auwal Musa Muhammad, has directed the Divisional Police Officer and his team to take immediate action.
“The operation led to the arrest of the prime suspect, who later confessed to his involvement during interrogation.
“A dedicated team of investigators has been deployed to ensure a thorough probe, and the case has been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
“Authorities confirmed that all individuals connected to the crime will be held accountable, and the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly,” Wakil said
Meanwhile, the police command has apprehended a suspect over alleged child defilement.
Wakil said that on April 24, a woman residing at the Tambari Housing Estate raised concerns about her 9-year-old niece after observing signs of abuse.
“It was discovered that the minor had been sexually assaulted by her mother’s partner, a 37-year-old male resident of Yelwan Tsakani.
“Following the complaint, detectives swiftly arrested the suspect, who later confessed to the crime.
“The child has received medical attention at Bayara General Hospital. The case is under active investigation, and the suspect will be formally charged upon conclusion,” Wakil said
The police spokesman reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the rights of all citizens, particularly women and children, and ensuring that justice is served without delay, (NAN)
