Fourteen years after the demise of former Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, political associates, friends, and admirers gathered to commemorate his legacy and reflect on his impact on Nigeria’s political landscape.
Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came together on Sunday to honour the late ex-President, who served as Katsina State’s governor and later as Nigeria’s President from May 2007 to May 2010.
Among those paying tribute was Aminu Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District.
He described Yar’Adua as a “true democrat” known for his respect for the rule of law and commitment to national unity.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki echoed similar sentiments, reminiscing about Yar’Adua’s dedication to building strong institutions and ensuring that democracy in Nigeria was firmly rooted in laws and best practices.
Shehu Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, remembered Yar’Adua for his simplicity and his efforts to improve the lives of the less privileged in the country.
Reflecting on the personal loss, Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the late President’s brother and current Senator representing Katsina Central, described him as “an exceptional leader and an icon of democracy,” praying for Allah’s blessings on his soul.
Former Delta State Governor James Ibori highlighted Yar’Adua’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, combating corruption, and promoting dialogue across regions, despite his tenure being tragically cut short.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the commemoration of Yar’Adua’s legacy serves as a reminder of his contributions to Nigerian politics and his vision for a united and prosperous nation.
