Power Outages Hit Nine Ogun Communities As Egbin Generation Drops

In a recent development, nine communities in Ogun State are grappling with power outages following a decline in power generation from the Egbin power station.

The affected areas include Abeokuta, the state capital, as well as Sango, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Mowe, Ibafo, and Magboro.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) made the announcement via its social media handles late on Thursday night.

According to the IBEDC, the drop in generation from the Egbin power station has left residents in these communities without electricity.

In response to the situation, the IBEDC assured the public that its technical team is actively collaborating with relevant stakeholders to expedite the restoration of power supply.

The distribution company also expressed its regret for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected outage.

This recent power disruption comes on the heels of the IBEDC’s prior announcement on December 19, 2023, where ongoing maintenance at the Egbin Power Station resulted in zero load allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The TCN had clarified that the power plant’s shutdown was necessary to facilitate maintenance work on the gas pipeline supplying Egbin Power Station.

As residents in affected communities endure the blackout, efforts are underway to address the power generation challenges and restore normalcy to the affected areas.
