A pregnant woman, identified as Mrs. Temitope Akinsipe, on Monday staged a lone protest in Akure, the Ondo State capital, over the sudden disappearance of her husband, an operative of the Amotekun Corps, identified as Victor Temitope Akinsipe.
Mrs. Akinsipe, visibly distressed and heavily pregnant, was seen at the Igbatoro Road Roundabout—an area leading to both the Amotekun Corps headquarters and the Governor’s Office—carrying a placard and crying as she demanded to know her husband’s whereabouts.
According to her, her husband went missing about a week ago after allegedly receiving a phone call from the Amotekun Command in Akure, summoning him to a “peaceful meeting” at the Senior Staff Club.
“My husband told me the Commandant called them for a meeting to settle the issue of appointment letters. He left home for the meeting, and since then, I have not seen or heard from him,” she lamented.
The distraught woman said she was compelled to take to the streets after several failed attempts to locate her husband through official and informal means. She appealed to Nigerians, civil rights organisations, and security agencies to intervene and help uncover the truth about her husband’s disappearance.
Sources close to the Corps hinted that the said meeting might have been connected to internal agitations among some Amotekun operatives demanding formal appointment letters from the Ondo State Government.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Amotekun Corps had yet to make any official statement regarding the incident.
The Amotekun Corps, established in 2020 as a regional security outfit to complement police efforts in curbing crime across the South-West, has faced several internal and operational challenges, including welfare and appointment disputes among its personnel..
