Bandits on Monday night invaded Isapa community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting at least 11 residents, including a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers and several children.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the attackers, said to be more than 20, stormed the agrarian community around 9pm, firing sporad gunshots as they moved in with a large herd of cattle.
An elderly woman was reportedly struck by a stray bullet during the raid.
A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that seven of the abducted victims belonged to the same family.
He listed the victims as:
• Talatu Kabiru, 20
• Magaji, 6
• Kande, 5
• Hadiza, 10
• Mariam, 6
• Saima, 5
• Two housewives: Habibat and another identified only as Saima
• Fatima Yusuf, a pregnant woman
• Sarah Sunday, 22
• Lami Fidelis, 23, a nursing mother
• Haja Na Allah, also a nursing mother
Residents told PLATFORM TIMES that the armed men moved from street to street, shooting into the air and leaving bullet holes in walls, vehicles and doors. Expended AK-47 shells littered the community after the gunmen fled through bush paths.
“We counted over 20 of them. They came with cows, shooting everywhere. People were running in different directions. They took children, mothers and even a pregnant woman,” an eyewitness said.
As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the attack.
Monday’s incident comes barely two weeks after gunmen stormed the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, also in Ekiti LGA, killing three worshippers and abducting 38 others during a church programme. The abducted worshippers were later released after days in captivity.
The recurrent attacks have heightened tension in Ekiti LGA, with residents accusing security agencies of failing to protect rural communities now exposed to repeated kidnappings.
