The proprietor of the Uyo Cybercrime Training Centre, also known as Hustle Kingdom (HK) has been sentenced to ten years in jail, with an option of a N2,000,000 fine for each count.
The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) dragged Edet to the court for impersonation, love scams, hacking/editing social media accounts, and private criminal tutoring
Justice Ojukwu, after considering the arguments from both sides, sentenced Edet and also ordered the forfeiture of all recovered exhibits, including 13 laptops, a gold-colored Toyota Corolla, a Lexus Jeep RX 300, and approximately 3,080.25 square meters of land.
Edet’s legal troubles began when EFCC investigators acted on intelligence and apprehended ten suspects at his Cybercrime Training Centre. All suspects were charged and convicted in court.
The court found him guilty on both counts brought against him by the EFCC.
The prosecution, represented by Joshua Abolarin, pressed for Edet’s conviction and urged the court to impose a stringent sentence while also advocating forfeiture of all exhibits recovered from Edet at the time of his arrest.
However, Francis Ezike, Edet’s defense counsel, pleaded for leniency in sentencing.
In a separate but related case, Michael Melvin Onyekachi, also known as ‘Raisa Pedroso,’ received a six-month prison sentence with an option of a N50,000 fine for possession of fraudulent documents.
Onyekachi pleaded guilty to fraudulently presenting himself as ‘Raise Pedroso’ on the Facebook platform, an offense under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act 2015.
