As Muslim and Christian faithful across Ogun State begin their respective holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged residents to embrace love, unity, and compassion.
Obasanjo, speaking on Wednesday, described the period as a sacred time for reflection, tolerance, and spiritual devotion to God.
She emphasized the need for Nigerians to extend kindness to the less privileged.
“The holy month of Ramadan is a sacred period of fasting that calls for reflection and devotion to draw closer to Almighty God.
“We must show love and compassion among ourselves,” she said.
The former senator also encouraged organizations, community groups, and wealthy individuals to support vulnerable members of society by sharing food and other essential items.
Obasanjo further reminded the faithful to include Ogun State, Nigeria, and their leaders in their prayers, noting that spiritual solidarity and civic responsibility go hand in hand.
Her appeal coincides with the commencement of Lent, a solemn period observed by Christians, underscoring a rare moment when both communities in Ogun State are engaged in spiritual reflection simultaneously.
She urged residents to use the overlapping seasons to strengthen communal bonds and foster interfaith harmony.
