The Governing Council of Remo Growth and Development Foundation (RemoGDF), has announced an elaborate plan for the maiden edition of Remo Day 2024, scheduled for December to celebrate the sons and daughters of Remoland, both at home and in the diaspora.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu on Wednesday, with key dignitaries in attendance, including Seni Adetu, Chairman of RemoGDF, and Prince Wole Sowole, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Planning Committee.
His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CFR, Akarigbo, and Paramount Ruler of Remoland who was represented by Oba Adewale Osiberu, Elepe of Epe, has tasked RemoGDF with organizing a grand event that unites Remonians from around the world.
Speaking at the press conference, Adetu, highlighted the vision, mission, royal mandate and some key milestones achievements made by the Foundation within its short lifespan as envisaged by the Grand Patron of the Foundation, th Akarigbo .
He disclosed that the Foundation was established in 2018 by His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Ogun State with the mission to develop Remoland into a destination that is economically prosperous, socially stable and safe to dwell in.
He said, “Remoland originally has thirty-three (33) towns, but now it has grown to be forty-seven (47) towns and villages”.
He further said that, Remo is known for its vibrant traditional culture which includes cultural festivals, oral history, music and dance.
Speaking on Remo Day, he said in order to ensure maximum participation, especially for those living abroad, the event will be held in December, aligning with the holiday season.
He expressed excitement about the upcoming event, which will celebrate the rich culture, history, and unity of the people of Remoland.
He said “this is an opportunity for Remonians, both home and abroad, to reconnect with their heritage and celebrate the progress we have made as a people.”
While speaking on the programmes of event,prince Sowole said the three-day programme includes an art exhibition, a dance drama, and a grand celebration rally.
He added that the art exhibition will feature a competition among secondary schools within Remo, aimed at building cultural awareness among the younger generation.
According to him,it will also showcase photographs, artifacts, and music that represent the traditions, industrial achievements, and historical figures of Remoland.
He stated that the second event will be a dance drama, which will narrate the origin, history, and evolution of Remoland, drawing from historical texts such as the book on Remoland and the Martindale Inquiry.
Prince Sowole explained that the theatrical performance will be an artistic representation of the rich oral history passed down through generations.
He said “the celebration will culminate in a grand rally on December 27 at the Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu, where town development associations, ethnic nationalities, and clubs will pay homage to Oba Babatunde Ajayi.
“ The event will feature colorful displays, including the traditional Gbedu dance and masquerade performances.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that this celebration reflects the unity and cultural pride of Remo people.
“We want to show the world the beauty and strength of Remo,” he stated, adding that the event will be an opportunity for Remonians to showcase their heritage and celebrate their achievements.
The press conference was attended by notable dignitaries, including Mr. Olumide Onimole, Financial Secretary, RemoGDF, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, Head, Education and Youth Empowerment, RemoGDF, Omo’ba Abiola Ogundeko, Media and Publicity Adviser, RemoGDF, Hon. Lanre Oyemade, Aare Wemmy Osude, Olotu (Engr.) Oye Oduguwa, amongst others.
The Remo Royal Fathers in attendance were His Royal Highness, Oba Adewale Osiberu, Elepe of Epe; His Royal Highness, Oba Adeyinka Onakade, Alakenne of Ikenne and His Royal Highness, Oba John Olayinka Odumade, Onilaye of Ilaye.
The Remo Day 2024 celebration promises to be a landmark event that will not only bring together the people of Remo but also put the rich cultural heritage of the region on a global stage.
