Tears flowed and heartfelt tributes filled the air as the late Professor Lai Oso, a distinguished figure in the field of communication, was laid to rest in his hometown of Sagamu.

The burial, held on Friday, July 14, marked the end of an era for the academic community.

Professor Oso had lost his life in a motor accident on the Ore-Sagamu expressway on June 24, 2023.

The accident occurred as he was returning from Delta State University DELSU, where he had served as an external examiner for PhD students.

During the final burial ceremony, attended by over 30 professors and numerous PhD holders from universities worldwide, eloquent tributes were paid to the late scholar.

Prof Oso was hailed as an icon and a compassionate man of great influence.

Also, many in the audience were moved to tears as colleagues and associates shared anecdotes of how Professor Lai Oso had gone above and beyond to ensure their academic success.

One of his acquaintances, Professor Pate, a renowned communication scholar, praised Oso’s humility and scholarship.

“Even though he had completed his PhD when I finished my first degree, he never acted superior. He was a remarkable friend, and words will forever fail to capture his greatness,” Pate reminisced.

As the widow, Abimbola, bid her final farewell to her beloved husband, she was consoled by Professor Rotimi Olatunji and other sympathizers, offering solace in this difficult moment.

“We now truly understand the greatness of my husband,” she said.

In the words of Yusuph Olaniyonu, one of his former students, “Professor Lai Oso’s legacy will forever live on, reminding us to strive for excellence and compassion in our academic pursuits.”
