The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the implementation and oversight of the Naira-for-Crude Oil Policy has given Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and other stakeholders a seven-day ultimatum to submit requested documents or face “parliamentary consequences.”
The deadline, which expires on Thursday, November 27, 2025, follows the failure of several agencies to appear at the investigative hearing scheduled on Thursday, November 20, and their refusal to provide critical documents.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, described the absence of stakeholders as “gross negligence” and a “blatant disregard for the legislative process.”
“Despite ample notice, the majority of stakeholders failed to recognise the role of the legislative arm in ensuring effective implementation of the policy,” Emerengwa said.
“This dereliction of duty undermines the integrity of the committee’s work and casts a shadow of unseriousness over a matter of national importance.”
The committee, which was set up to ensure transparency, accountability, and oversight of the Naira-for-Crude Oil Policy, has rescheduled the investigative hearing to 2nd December 2025 at 12:00 PM in Conference Room 440. Emerengwa stressed that this date is “final and non-negotiable.”
He warned that any attempt to frustrate the process would attract firm legislative sanctions, including the issuance of subpoenas, public naming of defaulting agencies, and recommendations for disciplinary action to relevant regulatory and executive bodies.
“Let it be unequivocally stated: the committee is deeply disappointed. Stakeholders must demonstrate their commitment to transparency and cooperation by the extended deadline,” he added.
The Naira-for-Crude Oil Policy, aimed at boosting revenue transparency and ensuring effective management of crude oil proceeds, has far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s economy and national development.
