The House of Representatives has passed for second reading the new budget request for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

President Bola Tinubu, through a letter to the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, had requested the passage of a new N419 billion supplementary budget for the territory.

The budget proposal comprises N38 billion for overhead costs and N381 billion for capital projects.

The budget was read for the first and second time on Wednesday and was referred to the House Committee on the FCT.

During the hearing, the Chairman of the Committee, Muktar Betara, informed his colleagues of the need to give the request an accelerated hearing due to the critical projects the funds are intended for.

The members of the committee agreed with the necessity of expediting the request.

It is expected that a report on the request will be presented to the House on Thursday.
