Hundreds of residents from Ringim Constituency in Jigawa State staged a protest on Thursday, demanding the removal of Alhaji Muttaka Namadi, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The demonstrators, comprising farmers, youths, community leaders, and women, gathered in front of the Jigawa State Government House, voicing their dissatisfaction with the commissioner’s performance.

The protesters, who marched from Ringim to Dutse, waved placards and banners as they blocked the main entrance of the government house.

Chants of disapproval filled the air as they called for the commissioner’s resignation, accusing him of neglecting the interests of the people and failing to deliver meaningful projects.

Malam Bashir Muhammad Dan Malam, one of the leaders of the protest, addressed the crowd, stating, “It’s time for him to resign or continue to face a series of votes of no confidence from us.”

The protesters argued that the removal of the commissioner is essential for upholding democracy and ensuring accountability within the government.

Despite attempts by security personnel and government officials to calm the situation, the protesters stood firm in their demand to present their grievances directly to Governor Umar Namadi.

The demonstration, which lasted for two hours, culminated in the selection of representatives from the group to meet with government officials.

During the meeting, the representatives submitted a formal petition outlining the commissioner’s alleged shortcomings and reiterated their call for his removal.
