The Rivers State Police Command has officially launched the “Operation Zero Crime” initiative within the state.

The police stated that this strategic effort is a significant step towards curbing criminal activities and fostering a secure environment, transforming Rivers State into a welcoming haven for both residents and potential investors.

The one-week program, initiated by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, aims to ensure a safe environment across the 23 local government areas of the state, as well as to convey the message that “police are your friends.”

Kate Ezeigbo, a journalist and coordinator of the program, disclosed this after a meeting with the committee.

She stated that the state Police Command was partnering with the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), comedians, hoteliers, and corporate organizations in the state to ensure its safety.

Others involved in planning the program include legal and medical practitioners, lecturers, and Nollywood actors.

Ezeigbo mentioned that the one-week event will feature a road walk, workshop, medical outreach by the Commissioner of Police, an essay competition, a beauty pageant (Queen and King), a football competition (CP Cup), and a concert (dubbed Night of Laughter).

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, his management team, and officers will conduct stop-and-search routines, present gift items, and visit major flashpoints to educate youths on why they should shun crime and lead a responsible and crime-free life.

She also hinted that the police boss would initiate an amnesty program that provides an opportunity for cultists and those involved in crime to renounce vice, lay down their weapons, and reintegrate into society.
