Rivers Assembly Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Governor Fubara Over 2025 Budget Presentation

The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Martins Amaewhule, has given Governor Similanayi Fubara a strict 48-hour ultimatum to present the state’s 2025 budget.

This ultimatum was issued during a plenary session held in Port Harcourt on Monday.

This development follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that affirmed Martins Amaewhule and 26 other assembly members aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as the legitimate representatives of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The court’s decision mandated their immediate resumption of legislative duties.

Governor Fubara had previously signed the N1.1 trillion 2025 budget into law on January 2nd, 2025, following its presentation to the four-member house led by Victor Oko Jumbo.

However, the recent legal developments necessitated a fresh presentation of the budget to the newly recognized assembly members.

Responding to the court ruling, Governor Fubara assured the public of his commitment to fully comply with the Supreme Court’s decision, stating in a statewide broadcast on Sunday that he would implement the judgement without reservation, having thoroughly reviewed the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling.

Meanwhile, heightened security measures have been observed at the GRA Assembly quarters, which currently serve as the temporary chambers for the assembly members.
