The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed resentment over the recent conduct of local government elections in Rivers State, saying he felt bad that the country’s democracy is being derailed.
Wike, who spoke on Tuesday when he featured on Channels TV programme, lamented that some Nigerians accused him of derailing democracy. Such assertions, he avowed, should be directed at the incumbent governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara.
According to him, Fubara’s inability to obey court judgement stopping him from conducting the recently concluded election, was a move to abuse the country’s democratic principles.
He said: “I feel so bad today, in Nigeria, you hear a lot of people who say that nobody should derail democracy. Let us ask ourselves, who is derailing democracy? Who intends to derail democracy?
“Is it the man who said the judgement of court should not be respected that is promoting democracy?
“I have heard the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar”; I have heard the former President, Goodluck Jonathan talking about the derailment of democracy. Atiku even said he praised Fubara.”
