Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that his political setback is only temporary, affirming that “no king lasts forever” and expressing confidence that his “victory will return.”
Fubara made the declaration during a public address in Bonny, Rivers State, where he reassured his supporters of eventual triumph, despite the political turbulence that has rocked the state since his fallout with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
In a speech laced with defiance and philosophical reflection, the embattled governor said his conscience is clear and that his actions are guided by integrity.
“Everybody will not appreciate your style, but when you know that what you are doing is right, you are sure that in 25 to 30 years, if placed in any box and asked a question, you can defend your action. That’s what makes you a man,” Fubara said.
He added: “No king lives forever, and no authority lasts forever. But what is important is that within the period you reigned, you did things that will speak forever.”
Encouraging his supporters to remain resilient, Fubara said that while it may seem like he is losing in the short term, the ultimate outcome will prove otherwise.
“At times, you need to lose to win. For me and anyone who believes in me, I have never considered myself to be losing anything,” he said. “It’s when you attach life to things that it bothers you. I know that at the end of the day, our winning will come to us because we are standing on a solid rock.”
Fubara was suspended in March 2025 after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, following escalating tensions between the governor and Wike.
The presidency subsequently appointed a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), as the Sole Administrator of the state for a six-month interim period.
The political crisis has drawn national attention, with multiple meetings held between Tinubu, Wike, and Fubara in an attempt to broker peace.
