Rivers Crisis : Sole Administrator Summons Fubara, Deputy For Probe

The state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has summoned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Dr Ngozi Ordu, to appear before him at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The summons, made public through a special announcement on Tuesday and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, is part of what officials described as “an official inquiry into appointments made over the past two years” under Fubara’s administration.

According to the statement, Fubara is expected to present a comprehensive set of documents justifying the appointments carried out during his time in office, including the criteria, procedures, and rationale that guided each decision.

The statement read in part, “The Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, has formally summoned the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and his Deputy, Dr Ngozi Ordu, to appear before him for an inquiry into the appointments made under their administration over the past two years.”

“Sir Fubara is directed to present all relevant documents and records pertaining to appointments, including justifications and procedures followed during his tenure.

The session will also serve as an opportunity for the suspended Governor to provide a clear and detailed explanation as to why he believes he should be reinstated to office.”

The hearing has been scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Rivers State Government House.

The announcement emphasized that attendance is mandatory for both Fubara and Ordu, describing the inquiry as part of Ibas’ efforts to “restore transparency, accountability, and lasting peace in the governance of Rivers State.”

The development adds another layer to the already tense political atmosphere in the oil-rich state, where a power struggle between opposing factions of the political elite has drawn national attention.

Critics have raised eyebrows over the legitimacy of a sole administrator probing a democratically elected governor, with some questioning whether the inquiry breaches constitutional protections such as immunity for sitting governors.
