    Rivers LG Sole Administrator Resigns After 70 Days in Office

     The Sole Administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, Mr. Goodluck Iheamnacho, has resigned from office less than three months after his appointment by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd).

    Iheamnacho, who was appointed on April 9 and officially sworn in on April 11, tendered his resignation in a letter dated June 20, 2025, citing a personal decision to return to private business.

    In the letter addressed to Ibas and obtained by PLATFORM TIMES, Iheamnacho wrote:

    “Sequel to the above subject matter; I humbly write to your noble office to convey to you my resignation as the administrator of Ahoada East LGA. My decision is informed by my desire to return back to the private sector.

    My sincere gratitude goes to the government of Rivers State and the good people of Ahoada East for finding me worthy to serve.”

    His exit marks the first resignation among the 23 sole administrators appointed by the Ibas-led interim government to oversee local government councils following the expiration of the tenures of elected chairmen.

    Political watchers, however, believe Iheamnacho’s decision may be linked to mounting internal pressures and rejection from stakeholders in the area.

    Some residents of Ahoada East who spoke with PLATFORM TIMES claimed the former administrator faced stiff opposition from community leaders who viewed his appointment as illegitimate and imposed.

    “He couldn’t operate effectively. The people didn’t accept him because they didn’t accept Ibas’s leadership,” a community source said.
