Suspected armed robbers have severed the hand of a school teacher, Isah Sallama, during a brutal attack in the Bunkure Local Government Area.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday night along Funkuyi Road in the Buran District of the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary for Public Enlightenment of the Rano Emirate Council, Nasiru Habu Faragai, the victim was attacked while attempting to rescue another resident, identified as Malam Sauwanu Hadi, who was being dispossessed of his motorcycle and mobile phone by the assailants.
Faragai disclosed that the attackers initially attempted to shoot Sallama, but their gun reportedly malfunctioned.
“The assailants tried to open fire on him, but when the weapon failed, they resorted to a machete and severed his hand,” the statement read.
The victim was said to have sustained severe injuries and was left in critical condition following the attack.
The District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Isa Umaru, subsequently reported the incident to the Emir of Rano, Muhammad Isa Umaru.
Reacting, the monarch described the attack as “disturbing and unacceptable,” and directed that the matter be escalated to security agencies for thorough investigation and prompt action.
He also approved a donation of N100,000 to support the victim’s medical treatment.
The emir further called on community leaders and security operatives to intensify efforts at curbing robbery and other criminal activities in the area.
The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kano State, particularly attacks linked to motorcycle-riding criminals operating in rural communities.
