Sallah: Kaduna gov’t, Zakat Foundation share Eid meat with 10,000 vulnerable families

Kaduna State government, in partnership with the Zakat and Waqf Foundation, has distributed meat to over 10,000 families across the state in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.

The initiative, aimed at promoting inclusivity and compassion, reached families in multiple local government areas, including Kaduna South, Kaduna North, Zaria, and Lere.

At the flag-off event held at the Kaduna South Local Government Secretariat, the Special Adviser to Governor Uba Sani on Social Investment Programmes, Bridget Sulaiman, emphasised that the distribution was not merely an act of charity, but one of restoring dignity.

“This initiative is about dignity,” she said. “It’s about ensuring that even the poorest and most vulnerable among us can celebrate Eid with joy, pride, and a sense of belonging.”

Eid-el-Kabir, a major Muslim festival symbolising sacrifice and generosity, was made more meaningful for thousands of recipients — including women, children, and persons with disabilities — who might otherwise have missed out on the celebration.

One of the beneficiaries, Ramatu Ahmed, a well-known advocate for persons with disabilities and the state’s Social Protection and Safeguarding Focal Person, praised the outreach as unprecedented.

“We’ve received packages in the past, but this one is exceptional. Each person received a portion large enough to feed ten. I’m honestly short of words,” she said, also thanking Governor Uba Sani, Bridget Sulaiman, and Jessica Bartholomew of the Kaduna Social Protection Accountability Coalition for ensuring the disability community was not left out.

Hon. Rayyan Hussain, Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, commended the public-private collaboration behind the initiative.

“The support from the Zakat and Waqf Foundation has made a real difference. It reflects Governor Uba Sani’s deep commitment to the welfare of our people,” he noted.

For many families, the gesture marked their first opportunity in years to fully partake in the spiritual and cultural spirit of Eid — a season rooted in sacrifice, unity, and care for the less fortunate.
