Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has officially terminated the work-from-home policy for civil servants, directing all employees to resume full on-site work starting April 1.
Initially introduced on February 22, 2024, the work-from-home policy allowed civil servants from level 1 to 14 to operate from their offices three days a week.
This measure was part of broader efforts to alleviate economic pressures faced by workers during challenging times.
In a recent statement, Bode Agoro, the state’s Head of Service, announced the cancellation of the policy, attributing the decision to the implementation of a new minimum wage and enhanced welfare measures for state workers.
The extension of the work-from-home policy in September 2024 was a temporary response to rising living costs.
“With the implementation of the new minimum wage and other welfare enhancements for public servants, Governor has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative in the Lagos State public service,” Agoro emphasized.
Agoro further urged all public servants across ministries, departments, and agencies to demonstrate commitment to their roles, ensuring improved service delivery to the citizens of Lagos.
The cancellation of the work-from-home policy aligns with recent national developments, including President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants nationwide, following prolonged negotiations with organised labour.
