Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, has paid glowing tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot whose legacy will endure for generations.
In a statement issued shortly after Buhari’s passing, Isola, who served under the late president’s administration between 2021 and 2023, said Buhari’s life was a symbol of unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity, progress, and security.
“President Buhari’s legacy as a soldier, statesman, and patriot will continue to inspire generations,” Isola declared.
He added “his simplicity, humility, and unwavering love for Nigeria endeared him to many, even in the face of challenges.”
Reflecting on Buhari’s leadership style, the former envoy said the late president was marked by “uncompromising integrity, personal simplicity, and a profound belief in national unity,” which he maintained throughout his career in both military and democratic governance.
Isola, who was appointed by Buhari as High Commissioner to the UK, noted that the late president was deeply committed to anti-corruption, institutional reform, and infrastructural development.
He recalled Buhari’s quiet but firm approach to international diplomacy and his determination to uphold Nigeria’s image on the global stage.
“He carried Nigeria’s image abroad with a certain stoic dignity. His stance on anti-corruption and national discipline resonated with global partners, especially in an era when moral courage was becoming rare,” Isola added.
He described his appointment as High Commissioner as one of the greatest honours of his life and praised Buhari’s trust in capable individuals to represent Nigeria abroad.
Offering his condolences to the Buhari family and the nation, Isola prayed for the repose of the late president’s soul and urged Nigerians to uphold the values of integrity, service, and patriotism that Buhari championed.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give his family and the nation the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, passed away recently at the age of 82.
His death has sparked widespread mourning across the country and beyond.
