Security Guard Gets Six-Month Jail Term For Cement Theft

A 28-year-old security guard, Sunday Joshua, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Dei-dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja. Joshua pleaded guilty to charges of criminal breach of trust and theft, leading to his conviction.

The presiding Judge, Saminu Suleiman, provided an alternative for Joshua to pay a fine of N100,000.

Additionally, he ordered the convict to compensate the complainant, Eyanohoure Kesiena, with the sum of N719,650.

The court heard that the matter was reported to Dutse Police Station on February 16 by Kesiena. Joshua had been employed by Kesiena as a security guard at a construction site in Kubwa, Abuja, since 2019.

Along with the theft of fifteen bags of cement, Joshua also misappropriated a Geepee tank, a batcher for blocks, and N95,000 in cash intended for plastering work.

Chinedu Ogada, the Prosecution Counsel, emphasized that Joshua’s actions violated the provisions of sections 312 and 289 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, in addition to the sentence, warned Joshua to uphold good behavior and refrain from future criminal activities.
