Gombe State’s former governor and current Senator for Gombe Central, Danjuma Goje, has disassociated himself and his family from a viral social media video allegedly showing guests spraying money at his daughter Fauziyya’s recent wedding.
Muhammad Yayari, Goje’s media aide, labeled the video misleading and clarified that it does not depict the wedding celebration of Fauziyya Goje and her husband, Aliyu Abubakar.
The wedding took place on Friday at the Central Mosque in Abuja, drawing high-profile guests including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajuddeen Abbas, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a statement, Yayari denounced the video as an attempt to tarnish the family’s reputation, describing it as a “blatant and calculated attempt” by “disgruntled elements” to misrepresent the event and its attendees.
He added that the couple in the video is neither Fauziyya nor her husband and that no one familiar to the Goje family appears in the footage.
Yayari urged the public to disregard the video, reaffirming the Goje family’s commitment to decorum and respect for Nigerian laws.
He noted that the wedding festivities were conducted with “decency and respect,” including a strict separation of men and women, consistent with the family’s values.
