Renowned Kaduna-based activist, Senator Shehu Sani, and former Deputy Editor-in-chief and Chairman of the Editorial Board of Punch Newspapers,  Bola Bolawole, are slated as guest speakers/discussants to discourse surrounding the perceived lawlessness within the Nigerian Military and the recent detainment of First News Online Editor, Mr. Segun Ọlatunji,

PLATFORM TIMES reports that   the online show is aimed to delve into the pressing issues at hand on the esteemed monthly interview platform, Boiling Point Arena, scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2024

Boiling Point Arena, a widely-followed current affairs program, will convene via Zoom and will be broadcast live on radio station Sweet 107.1FM for a two-hour duration starting from 8 pm.

Founded by media professional Dr. Ayo Arowojolu, with a distinguished career spanning media, banking, and education sectors, Boiling Point Arena has been a vital platform for discourse on governance and nation-building since its inception in November 2022.

The upcoming installment, the 18th edition of the program, will center its discussion on “Democracy: The Media Under Siege? Travails of Journalist Segun Olatunji in Military Detention.”

Senator Sani and Bolawole will offer their insights on the threats posed to Nigeria’s democracy through the crackdown on freedom of expression and press freedom, exemplified by the abduction and subsequent release of Journalist Ọlatunji.

Furthermore, the imperative of ensuring the subordination of the armed forces to democratic authorities and institutions of justice will be a focal point of discussion.

To kickstart the discourse, Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof Saka Matemilola, will deliver the keynote address in his capacity as Chairman of the Boiling Point Council of Royals and Elders.

In a statement issued by  Eddy Ademosu, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, the program aims to outline strategies for combating insecurity in Nigeria, emphasizing the need to minimize the visibility of soldiers in civilian operations.

Ademosu also commended the management of Sweet FM, led by Promoter Senator Olugbenga Obadara, for their support in amplifying the reach of the program through both terrestrial and online channels.

Boiling Point, a platform boasting a diverse array of eminent personalities, including professors, technocrats, industry leaders, high court justices, traditional rulers, security officials, and media professionals, continues to serve as a catalyst for informed discussions on pressing national issues.
