No fewer than seven persons, including a woman and her six children, were brutally murdered on Saturday after unknown assailants invaded their residence in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command said the attack occurred at about 12:10pm at the home of one Haruna Bashir, following a distress call received by the police.
The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar and her children, who were reportedly hacked to death with dangerous weapons.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately deployed a team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to the scene.
“The victims sustained fatal injuries and were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead,” the statement said.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the attackers also threw an infant into a well during the assault, triggering outrage and panic among residents of the densely populated community.
The police boss has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, to lead a full-scale investigation aimed at apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family and residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, assuring the public that no effort would be spared in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the gruesome killings.
A live video of the aftermath of the incident was streamed on social media by Freedom Radio Nigeria, further heightening public concern over rising insecurity in the state.
