A 23-year-old labourer,Abdulwahab Yusuf, has been arraigned before the Sharia Court in Kano for allegedly stealing cow skin (ponmo) valued at N8,500.

The accused who resides in Tukuntawa Quarters, is facing charges of theft as he appeared before Judge Umar Lawal-Abubakar on Tuesday.

During the proceedings, Yusuf pleaded guilty to the charges, leading Judge Lawal-Abubakar to order his remand in a correctional centre.

The case has been adjourned until August 22, when a summary trial will take place to address the matter in detail.

The alleged incident was reported to the court by the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Abdullahi Wada.

The complainant, Fatihu Auwal, who also resides in Tukuntawa Quarters, lodged the complaint at the Fagge Police Station on August 5.

According to Inspector Wada, the defendant was accused of entering the complainant’s stand and stealing the valuable cow skin.

In the light of recent crimes, it is evident that the Sharia Court is taking a firm stance against theft and will conduct a thorough trial to ensure justice is served.

The accused, Abdulwahab Yusuf, awaits his trial while held in custody.

The court’s actions aim to maintain the sanctity of law and uphold the rights of the complainant, Fatihu Auwal, who suffered the alleged theft of his valuable property.
