Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun Central, Ibikunle Amosun, has been commended for his immense contributions to the development of Ogun Central Senatorial District and his continued generosity, even after leaving office.
In a goodwill message marking Amosun’s birthday on January 25, Otunba Segun Showunmi, a prominent political stakeholder from Abeokuta, expressed gratitude for the senator’s financial support towards the ongoing project at the arcade of the Ake Palace Ground.
Showunmi noted that Amosun’s unwavering commitment to the initiative exemplified his dedication to the region’s growth.
“Even after leaving office, the project has continued to enjoy your generosity. This act underscores your enduring commitment to Ogun Central,” Showunmi said.
The message also highlighted the need for a political review in Ogun Central, particularly concerning the quality of its legislative representation.
Showunmi called on Amosun to take a leading role in addressing the perceived imbalance in political influence among the senatorial districts in Ogun State, particularly when compared to Ogun East and Ogun West.
“Our legislative representation right now is very weak compared to our peers in Ogun East and especially Ogun West.
“We must work hard to correct this going forward. I believe it is time for you to encourage a political review of Ogun Central as we prepare for 2027,” Showunmi stated.
He urged Amosun to champion the emergence of better-qualified representatives to secure Ogun Central’s rightful place in the state’s political landscape.
Showunmi concluded his message with a call for reflection, urging the senator to strategically plan for the district’s sustainable future.
He wished Amosun many happy returns on his birthday and reiterated the importance of strong leadership for the region’s progress.
Amosun, a two-term governor of Ogun State and a key figure in the All Progressives Congress, has been a prominent player in Ogun State and national politics.
