A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Showunmi’s Political Movement has launched a compelling 15-minute re-orientation radio drama designed to educate the public.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the move was to alter the voters’ perceptions regarding vote procurement, political apathy, and other societal vices.
It was also gathered that the creative initiative aims to deepen participatory democracy and promote sincere service delivery.
In a statement issued from the office of Showunmi, the docudrama, set in a fictional town called Jangbalajugbu, highlights various societal abnormalities in Nigeria, emphasising the importance of cultivating a positive attitude towards national development.
The statement read that this isn’t the first time Showunmi has sponsored a significant project focused on improving societal behaviour.
According to the statement, previously, he had supported a five-minute talk aimed at restoring lost virtues in Nigerians, particularly the youth, ahead of the 2023 elections.
“Titled ‘Kulumbuyeye,’ the radio drama falls under popular theatre, a genre identified by the late Professor of Communications, Dr. Lai Oso, as a powerful tool for change. The content is expected to significantly influence citizens to take responsibility for their voting decisions.
“Scheduled to air on Fresh FM Abeokuta this quarter, the drama will be broadcast three times a week from July to September 2024.
“The pilot episode, set to launch this July, will be available in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba, with future episodes planned in other languages, including Igbo, Hausa, and Fulfude.
“Listeners can tune in to Fresh FM Abeokuta every Thursday at 7:45 PM for the Yoruba version, Friday at the same time for the English version, and Saturday for the Pidgin version. Over time, the content will be aired on one radio station per state.
“Otunba Segun Showunmi’s chief promoter assures Nigerians of continued support for meaningful creative content that aims to elevate Nigeria on the global stage.
“We are committed to backing initiatives that foster positive change and development in our beloved country,” Sowunmi affirmed.
