In a significant breakthrough, the Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended six individuals allegedly involved in the sexual abuse of minors within the state.
The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, Samuel Musa, revealed this disturbing information during a press briefing held in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
According to Musa, the investigation was initiated after a report on August 17 from Ahmed Muhammed of Koko town in Koko-Besse Local Government Area. His 16-year-old daughter had mysteriously vanished, sparking concerns.
Upon locating her, a horrifying truth came to light – she had been the victim of sexual abuse by five different individuals.
Suleiman Abubakar, Yunusa Garba, Suleiman Hamza, Yahaya Abubakar, and Shamsudden Muhammed, all from the same area, had taken advantage of her vulnerability on separate occasions.
Samuel Musa emphasized, “The suspects have been apprehended and will be brought before the court upon the completion of our investigation.”
Disturbingly, another victim’s story surfaced when Yusha’u Adamu reported on August 21 that his 10-year-old niece had fallen prey to the same group of suspects.
The girl’s innocence was violated by Saidu Sani, who not only subjected her to this horrifying act but also threatened her into silence.
In another incident, Hauwa Suleiman of Babbar Dogo Village in Maru LGA of Zamfara was arrested on July 24 with a startling cache of 566 rounds of live ammunition (7.62x39mm). The police acted swiftly on intelligence, leading to her apprehension
Highlighting the police’s relentless efforts, the Commissioner disclosed that an attempted bandit attack on Dan-Umaru Village in Danko/Wasagu LGA was repelled.
The police managed to recover a rocket launcher, and although the suspects escaped, they were not unscathed, having sustained gunshot wounds of varying degrees.
In an unrelated case Aminu Bello was taken into custody after allegedly fatally stabbing a friend over a debt.
Commissioner Musa urged all law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police and other security agencies.
As investigations continue, Kebbi State is reminded of the importance of community watchfulness to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents
