The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the deaths of six officers and the disappearance of six others in Delta State following an ambush while investigating the disappearance of three colleagues.

In a statement released by the Force’s Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was disclosed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.

The statement expressed profound sadness over the loss of the courageous officers who fell victim to a cowardly ambush by armed assailants while on a mission in the Ohoro Forest, Delta State.

The deceased officers were identified as Inspector Abe Olubunmi, Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday.

The missing officers were listed as Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie.

The Nigeria Police Force pledged to posthumously recognize the officers for their service and sacrifice at an upcoming awards ceremony and assured support for their families.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has initiated decisive actions to expedite the apprehension of the perpetrators and ensure justice is served swiftly.

The NPF condemned attacks on law enforcement personnel and urged the public to provide any information that could aid in apprehending the remaining perpetrators.

The incident comes shortly after the reported killing of 17 soldiers of the Nigerian Army in Delta State during a peacekeeping mission in Bomadi Local Government.
