The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has rescued a kidnapping victim and apprehended a suspect, Tunde Salami, in the state.

The successful operation was carried out by personnel of the Corps under the leadership of Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo.

According to a statement issued by Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf on Friday, the rescue mission was initiated on the 13th of July, 2023, after the Headquarters of the Corps instructed the Ijebu Zonal Command, led by ACC Marcus Ayankoya, to locate and rescue a woman who had been kidnapped on her way back from the market late at night.

“Ganzallo noted that he instructed his men to swing into action and get the culprits alive and to ensure the victim gained freedom in earnest and they went after them immediately,” the statement said.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had forcefully taken the victim’s belongings, including her phone, gold jewelry, a sum of N100,000, and an ATM card before driving away in her car. Despite facing logistical challenges, the Corps remained relentless in their pursuit of the criminals.

Commander Ganzallo later received information about suspicious footprints found on a farmland in the Oke-Ako Community, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

Acting swiftly, the Commander instructed the Isiwo/Itamapako Divisional Officer, SC Aderibigbe M.O, to lead a specialized squad in dealing decisively with the suspected kidnappers. After an intense search, the kidnappers were located in the process of moving the victim to a new location.

During the operation, a gunfight ensued between the suspects and the Corps, however the criminals were ultimately overpowered by the superior response and tactics of the So-Safe Corps.

One of the kidnappers, identified as 32-year-old Salami from Ibadan, Oyo State, was captured alive, while the kidnapped victim was successfully rescued unharmed, as no injury was also sustained.

A locally-made pistol was recovered from the apprehended suspect, further solidifying the evidence against him.

The statement therefore mentioned that both the suspect and the rescued victim have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, specifically the Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
