An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court in Kwara State has ordered the remand of Sultan Ojuwoni Atakoro, an Ibadan-based social media influencer and herbalist, along with his accomplice Olaitan Ibrahim Olalekan at the Correctional Service Centre Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
The duo faces charges of alleged rape and arson involving a 21-year-old victim, Firdaos Jimoh.
The Kwara State Police Command brought Atakoro and Olalekan to court, presenting a First Information Report (FIR) that outlined the horrifying details of the case.
The FIR alleges that Atakoro serially raped and set ablaze Firdaos Jimoh in his shrine in Ibadan, Oyo State, with the involvement of Olalekan and another individual, Omowumi, along with her children, who are currently at large.
The charges brought against the suspects include criminal conspiracy, unlawful trial by ordeal, rape causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous means, and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
These charges fall under Sections 97, 214, 283, and 229 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Kolawole Aluko, presiding over the case, declined to take the plea of the suspects, asserting that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the severity of the charges.
Despite not allowing the suspects to enter their pleas, Magistrate Aluko considered the submissions from both the prosecution and the counsel for the second defendant.
Ultimately, Magistrate Aluko ordered the remand of Atakoro and Olalekan at the Correctional Service Centre Oke-Kura, Ilorin, until January 17, 2024, when the case is scheduled for mention.
He emphasized that the gravity of the offenses makes them not ordinarily bailable, underscoring the severity of the alleged ritual rape and arson case.
