The Sokoto state government says it has earmarked N998 million for the 2025 Ramadan feeding programme to feed 20,000 residents daily throughout Ramadan.

The government said the feeding programme would take place at 155 designated centres across the state.

NAN reports that Ahmad Aliyu, governor of Sokoto, said on Tuesday that about 20,000 residents would be fed daily throughout Ramadan.

Aliyu spoke during the distribution of food items to feeding centre managers.

He said the state government has engaged the services of 1,400 people, including 610 women as cooks for the programme.

The governor urged feeding centre managers to maintain transparency in the exercise and called on residents to ensure orderliness.
As part of the Ramadan support initiative, Aliyu announced the distribution of 990 bags of maize to 2,400 religious leaders across the state.

Each mosque imam received five bags of maize and N100,000, while deputy imams got three bags of maize and N50,000 each.

Mu’adhins were also given two bags of maize and N50,000 each.
Additionally, 300 Islamic scholars selected from various wards received N200,000 each, while another 100 scholars were given N100,000 each.

The governor said 10 Quranic scholars (Malaman Zaure) from each ward across the state’s 23 LGAs were selected to receive N50,000 each.

Aliyu said the support was aimed at empowering religious leaders to continue their obligations at the grassroots level during Ramadan.

“This support is intended to assist them and their families, enabling them to focus on their vital religious responsibilities during the sacred period,” he said.

“The gesture appreciates the numerous spiritual contributions these scholars make to the people of Sokoto State.”
