In a shocking turn of events, a resident of Kajola Village near Apomu in Osun State, Lukman Adejoju, has been accused of committing matricide, allegedly murdering his mother, Aminat, in a dispute over the proceeds from the sale of palm oil.
Eyewitnesses recounted the tragic incident, revealing that Lukman and his mother had hired a laborer to assist them in selling kegs of palm oil.
However, tensions escalated when it came time to divide the profits, with the deceased insisting that the money be paid to her directly. This reportedly enraged Lukman, leading to a violent altercation.
According to Rasaki, an eyewitness to the incident, “Residents of the village were all disappointed when we heard of the incident.
The incident happened in Kajola village near Apomu on Saturday at about 4 p.m. We heard that Lukman… disagreed with his mother… over who should collect the proceeds from their palm oil plantation.”
The altercation turned fatal when Lukman allegedly attacked his elderly mother, resulting in her untimely demise.
The tragic event sent shockwaves through the community, prompting the intervention of law enforcement agencies to restore calm.
Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the NSCDC, Osun State Command, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who was subsequently transferred to a police station in Apomu.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, disclosed that the suspect had been moved to the command headquarters in Osogbo for further investigation.
Opalola recounted, “They were both going to farm when they disagreed. The suspect said he could not explain the spirit that possessed him.
He admitted that he pushed the deceased… and the woman fell and died.”
