Southwest Youth Advocacy Network Raises Concerns Over Finance Minister’s Actions

The Southwest Youth Advocacy Network has accused Finance Minister Wale Edun of hindering the federal government’s fight against poverty, urging President Bola Tinubu to address controversial decisions made by Edun.

In a statement signed by convener Comrade Seun Adeaanu, the group expressed deep concern over the proposed relocation of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) and other reported actions by the minister.

“The decision to transfer the NSIP from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Economy is unacceptable and warrants appropriate action,” stated the group.

“They deemed this move insensitive, particularly during the government’s active efforts to address economic challenges and alleviate citizen hardships.

The Southwest Youth Advocacy Network highlighted that this action contradicts President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to handle such tasks.

They argued that moving the NSIP to the finance ministry would impede ongoing efforts to address the economic needs of Nigerians.

Furthermore, the group expressed concern over reports suggesting that Mr. Edun is withholding funds approved and released by the Federal Government for the 2024 Hajj Commission.

Delays in disbursing these funds, coupled with rising Hajj fares, are causing distress to intending pilgrims.

In response to these concerns, Comrade Adeaanu called on President Bola Tinubu to thoroughly investigate Wale Edun’s actions and take decisive measures to address any wrongdoing.

Emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency in governance, the group urged President Tinubu to uphold the principles of good governance, ensuring that public officials act in the best interest of the citizens.

The statement concluded with a call for a thorough examination of Edun’s actions to safeguard the welfare of the people.
