A Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has granted controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, bail in the sum of N2 million with a surety of the same amount.
However, Magistrate O.L. Oke issued a stern warning, emphasizing that Portable risks losing his bail if he discusses the court proceedings on social media or causes trouble in any way.
“If you leave this courtroom and, for any reason, go to any social media platform to say anything about the court, you will lose your bail,” Magistrate Oke warned.
“If you leave and foment trouble or cause problems with anyone, you will lose that bail. If you miss any court appearances or arrive late, you will lose your bail.”
Portable, who faces a five-count charge including conspiracy, assault, possession of dangerous weapons, and unruly conduct, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The charges stem from an alleged assault on three officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA), during an incident that also involved a violent altercation with his entourage.
Appearing in court, the 31-year-old singer, known for his hit song “Zazoo,” was visibly emotional, shedding tears as he stood before the judge.
The case was briefly adjourned as the Ogun State government took over prosecution from the police.
Portable’s defense counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, urged the court to grant bail, asserting that the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Ayodele further assured the court that her client would not abscond and would adhere to all conditions of the bail.
“My Lord, I pray that you exercise patience with Habeeb Okikiola by granting him bail,” Ayodele said. “This bail is to allow him to properly stand trial.
He is still innocent until the court proves otherwise. I promise he will appear for all court proceedings.”
Magistrate Oke reiterated that the bail would be revoked if Portable violated any of the terms, especially taking to social media to discuss the case or engaging in any form of disruption.
When questioned about his mental health, Portable reassured the court that he was fit and in good health.
The case was adjourned to March 5th, with the singer and several of his associates facing charges related to armed violence, obstruction, and assault.
The Ogun State Police Command had initially arrested Portable’s associates, who were later arraigned for their roles in the violent incident.
