The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Chapter, has appealed to the Ogun State Government to expedite the process of appointing a new Rector for the institution.

With the tenure of the current Rector, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, set to expire on December 5, 2024, the union emphasized the importance of ensuring a seamless leadership transition to maintain stability and foster progress.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Comrade Tunde Abiodun, and Secretary, Comrade Olutosin Ogundeyi, SSANIP commended the Governing Council and other stakeholders for their diligence in the ongoing selection process.

The union, however, urged the government to prioritize merit, fairness, and adherence to the Polytechnic (Amendment) Act of 2019 in finalizing the appointment.

According to SSANIP, these principles are crucial to selecting a competent leader who can effectively drive the institution toward new milestones of development.

The union noted that any delay in the appointment could disrupt both academic and administrative operations, affecting students, staff, and the broader MAPOLY community.

“The workforce of MAPOLY eagerly anticipates a resolution. Prolonged uncertainty at the helm of leadership may impact the smooth running of the Polytechnic’s activities and hinder its overall progress,” the statement read.

The union also called on the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to act swiftly and decisively in finalizing the process.

It emphasized that a timely appointment based on merit would promote continuity, peace, and accelerated growth for the institution.

SSANIP reaffirmed its commitment to MAPOLY’s progress and stability, expressing confidence that the state government would act in the institution’s best interests.

“With just nine days left until December 5, we reiterate the need for prompt action. Leadership stability is critical to achieving the Polytechnic’s long-term goals,” the statement concluded.

The call for swift action comes as the MAPOLY community braces for the leadership transition, with hopes for a smooth and impactful change at the helm of the institution.
