A public commentator in Zamfara State, Ahmad Bakare has cautioned the federal government to stop issuing licences to miners of solid minerals, saying it is the major cause of insecurity in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the State capital, Bakare said these are avenues for bandits to perpetrate their evil activities.
He claimed that most of the known terrorists were not from Zamfara State, noting that if the federal government withdraws the licenses of legal and illegal solid mineral miners, the insecurity problems will stop.
Banditry activities have persisted in Zamfara State with killings and kidnappings regularly recorded, despite efforts by security agencies to arrest the situation.
