A Nigerian woman trapped in Libya has sent out a desperate plea to the Federal Government and concerned Nigerians to rescue her, warning that she could be thrown into prison if caught by security operatives.
In a video obtained by PLATFORM TIMES, the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed for safety reasons, was seen weeping profusely as she narrated her ordeal.
She said she has been hiding from Libyan authorities who have intensified raids on irregular migrants in parts of the country.
“I am stranded here in Libya. They are arresting people right now as I speak. If they catch me where I am hiding, they will take me straight to prison,” she cried.
The distraught lady appealed to the Nigerian government, humanitarian organisations, and individuals of goodwill to intervene and facilitate her safe return to Nigeria.
Her case mirrors the plight of thousands of Nigerians who have found themselves trapped in Libya in recent years, many of whom fall victim to human trafficking, forced labour, or arbitrary detention by Libyan security forces.
Despite multiple repatriation efforts previously undertaken by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Nigerian government, scores of migrants remain stranded, with some subjected to dire living conditions.
The woman’s cry for help has once again brought to the fore growing concerns over the welfare of Nigerians abroad, particularly in conflict-ridden countries where human rights abuses against migrants are rampant.
As of press time, Nigerian authorities were yet to officially respond to her plea.
